News January 2009 – written by Maisie
Hi all
Well January has passed rapidly and there has only been 2 important events which were Emil and Maya’s birthdays. As they now live further south In Denmark W.A. we were not able to be with them, but John has put a lovely selection of photos taken by him, which can be seen by clicking on John and Silvia’s Latest Photos
Other than that, the news this month from here is pretty mundane! Mike has painted all the inside doors and frames so we spent a few nights sleeping in the caravan because of the strong smell of paint, chuckle!
We had to have a new filter for the pool, plus the pump repaired twice, as they didn’t do it properly the first time! Then we discovered the pool was leaking so had to do away with the bottom suction pipe and also replace a lot of the piping which, though rather costly, seems to have solved all the problems.
We also had to have a new fan motor fitted into the Transit van – another costly venture – and then get the air-conditioning system re gassed, only to find that we now need a new switch so that the air- conditioning switches on properly, so it’s been rather an expensive month!
Last Sunday we made a small paella – yes! for only 7 of us, that must be a first!! – with just us, Jo, Simon and the girls and a friend of Alex. It was a very tasty one and we had a nice family afternoon, although it was so hot on the patio, even in the (sombra) shade, that we had to go indoors into the air conditioning for dessert! Alex entertained us singing and playing the guitar, while Lizzie and Emma joined in now and then and I also played my ukulele for a couple of songs with her. See the January 2009 album.
The oil painting on the wall is of Michael's Mother and father one he painted some years ago, we always feel they are here listening chuckle
In between all these happenings I have been playing a lot of bowls. We are now in 4th place on the Pennants ladder after dropping down to 6th a couple of weeks ago. There has also been the usual ‘fun’ games, and we had a hot but very entertaining Australia Day game on 26th January. Michael came for the BBQ and stayed to watch the game for a while. Here we are the Winners of the Ladies Championships Triples on December 17th

Mike has been trying to fit in his usual 12km walk as and when possible but has missed quite a few mornings due the door painting as that could also only be done in the cool of the morning. I actually managed to do part of his walk one morning too, chuckle, but have now gone back to a daily swim instead now that the pool is working again.

Well I think that’s about all. See you all again next month!
